Mayoral candidate to speak at Democratic luncheon

April 1, 2024 - 1:00pm Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jason Hastings, one of five candidates for Mayor of Carson City. Jason earned a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from UNR in 2012. The primary is set for June 11, with early voting beginning on May 25th. The top two will advance to the general election.
An experienced Chief Operating and Science Officer, Jason Hastings boasts over a decade of research and leadership experience in the fields of food safety, production, and higher education. Recognized for his leadership of laboratory teams and expertise in development of comprehensive management programs that significantly enhanced his company's growth. He achieved a high level of expertise across a broad spectrum of operations, from laboratory design, analytical method development, adherence to Good Laboratory Practices ("GLP") and Current Good Manufacturing Practices ("CGMP"), cost analysis, regulatory practices, and supply chain management. He has a record of accomplishment in negotiation, communication, and project management skills.
As Senior Manager of Science and Education, Jason is engaged in the research and development of health-focused products suitable for all ages. His work is both about innovation and fostering well-being and a longer, healthier life through proper nutrition. His advocacy and educational efforts extend well beyond his professional achievements, touching the lives of many.
Jason’s connection with Carson City began in 1993, when at the age of seven he and his family made Carson their home. Engaging in sports from an early age, he learned the value of teamwork and self-discipline, qualities that have inspired and guided him throughout his adult life. His life experiences have deepened his ties with the community and shaped his personal and professional ethos.
Jason's academic journey at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering, was marked by notable leadership, particularly as Vice President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. His high school activities were also formative, having risen to the level of Executive Officer in JROTC, also having met his future wife, Lisa, which added a deeply personal dimension to his unfolding life story.
Jason's professional path includes significant roles within the nutraceutical industry, where he put his extensive knowledge and leadership ability to good use driving growth and innovation. Beyond his career pursuits, Jason has also been active in the community, serving as the president of his daughters' PTO and founding the 'College Bound Cadet' scholarship at Carson High. This demonstrates his personal commitment to enriching Carson’s educational landscape.
Together with wife Lisa, Jason is eager to play an enhanced role in the city's continued development and prosperity. He will combine his professional acomplishments with his community engagement and a passion for enhancing the well-being of others through education. His story is one of dedication, both to his field of endeavor and to the community that has played a significant role in his personal and professional development.
This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, April 1st, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom.
