The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Bridgeport Ranger District is open as of Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team including North Lake Tahoe and North Tahoe fire protection districts, Nevada Division of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, will continue burning slash piles this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting.

Plastic litter is a growing problem around the world, and new research shows that the bottom of Lake Tahoe is no exception. In one of the first studies to utilize scuba divers to collect litter from a lakebed, 673 plastic items were counted from just a small fraction of the lake.

The Heavenly Gondola is closed indefinitely due to a mechanical issue. Operations were shut down after the gondola maintenance team worked with the lift manufacturer and project engineer to diagnose the problem, which is related to one of the bearings in the high-speed shaft.

I met a magical horse recently. She loved having her picture taken, if that is not enough, she posed. After about 15 minutes of photographing her I finally went to my car. I took one last look at her before I left and she was happily galloping up the hill that was behind her. I couldn't write a more perfect story!
