Multi-faith Prayer Service at Governor’s Mansion in view of Ebola epidemic

Nevada’s faith leaders from various traditions will join together to pray for God’s mercy and for the victims and their families and care providers at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City on Nov. 13.

Submitted by Danielle Cook on Tue, 10/21/2014 - 5:25pmEarly voting has begun in Carson City and continues until Friday, Oct. 31; all voters who wish to early vote should take their sample ballots to the Elections Office, located on the first floor of the Carson City Courthouse, 885 East Musser Street, Suite 1025, Carson City. The office is open to voters 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Voters should have received a sample ballot in the mail Oct. 14.

Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/19/2014 - 6:29amThis week’s senior spotlight is on senior Challen Wright. Challen currently has a 4.43 weighted GPA and has straight A’s in his challenging course load of AP and honors courses.
In addition to being an excellent student, Challen is also heavily involved in theater both at Carson High School and in the community. Challen has been a part of nearly every Carson High School production since his freshman year, including behind the scenes as the stage manager of the most recent play, The House of Bernarda Alba.
41st Annual Nevada Day World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest

Come view the old-world contest of strength, skill, and Sierra White Granite grit; free for spectators.
Contestants used 4 1/2 pound hammers and as many as 11 bits of graduated steel to drill a 3/4 inch hole in a 4,320 pound piece of Sierra White Granite.

Pony Express riders arrive Friday at Nevada State Capitol Building

In honor of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, the White Pine, Eureka, Lander, and Churchill County Commissions have each issued special proclamations. These county proclamations will be picked up by Pony Express Riders in Ely, Eureka, Austin and Fallon and will be delivered on horseback to the Nevada State Capitol Building.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the carnival opens at 12:00PM and will be jam packed with food vendors, live music, games, crafts, and more. Restaurants are providing the soup and bread that will fill our Empty Bowls. For a minimum donation of $12, you may select one of the bowls and enjoy a warm winter meal to launch the holiday season. The artisan bowl is yours to keep as a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community. There will also be an art auction at the event!
Annual Light After Dark Walk/Run raises awareness and funds for Advocates

Starting at 11 a.m. on Race Day, participants can pick-up their packets at Riverview Park. Warm-ups will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the RACE starting at 6 p.m. The race course will be the Full Loop once around for the 5K and twice around for the 10K. There will be music and refreshments after the race. They encourage participants to dress up. Each participant will given a glow stick to wear during the event.

Open sundown until 11 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Halloween. The entrance fee is a can of food or non-perishable food item or warm winter clothing per person! This is a non-profit organization and the third year running. All donations are being given to two local food pantries!
Students to converge on the Carson River for 2014 Snapshot Day

These field studies provide a unique hands-on opportunity to learn about the Carson River watershed and the natural environment.
